Hello Families!
I am originally from Oak Park, graduating from OPHS in 2007! My husband and I were fortunate to purchase our first house this summer in Newbury Park, and we are so grateful to be planting roots in the Conejo Valley. I am so excited to be teaching in my hometown, and I am looking forward to giving back to my community the best way I know how. :)
I attended undergrad at the University of Arizona (beardown!) where I studied Sociology and Psychology, graduating in 2011. Throughout college I interned at an academic publisher, and after graduating I ended up working in the licensing department for five years. During this time I came to realize if I wanted to make a change and impact on this world the best place for me to start would be in the classroom. I then enrolled in graduate school at Loyola Marymount University where I received my Master's in Education and teaching credential in 2016.
This will be my fifth year of teaching, my first at Red Oak Elementary, and I am looking forward to a great school year! Before coming to ROES, I taught third grade at Brookside Elementary, and I absolutely loved my time there. Before that I was fortunate to teach two years of third grade in El Segundo Unified and one year of 4/5 in LAUSD . At the end of my first year teaching, I was one of eighteen recipients out of 2,000 new teachers to receive LAUSD's 2016 'Rookie Teacher of the Year' award. I was honored at Dodger Stadium for this award, and am overcome with appreciation to have been nominated for such a prestigious award after my first year teaching.
In my free time I enjoy playing with my puppy, Luna, traveling (when safe), hiking, and exploring all the fun opportunities (and food) our community has to offer!
